Mariposa is a master-planned community that is located in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, in the United States. It encompasses 6,500 acres (2,600 ha) of land annexed by the City of Rio Rancho. High Desert Investment Corporation is the primary developer of Mariposa.
Mariposa East is the first phase of the 6,500-acre (2,600 ha) development breaking ground in 2007. In approximately 1,500 acres (610 ha), 1700 residential units will be built. The master planned community has a great deal of open space, 10 mi (16 km) of hiking and biking trails, neighborhood parks, the Mariposa Preserve, a 2,300 acres (930 ha) tract which is located north of Mariposa East.
